I was watching the CBS comedy Big Bang Theory and noticed that through the living room window I could see the city hall dome and one of the building on Colorado (I think). I do kind of remember that they're CalTech students but just noticed this today. Anyway, it brought me to wonder about other TV shows set in Pasadena. I'm posting it here because this group needs more life.
I can come up with:
Family (Kritsy McNichol, Meredith Baxter (pre Birney), Sada Thompson, "and the rest" as they say),
Pasadena (the show with Dana Delaney and more),
The SNL sketch with Will Farrell and, uh, Ana Gasteyer (?), <someone> and Bobbi Mohan-Culp, the musical duo that held court at the "Altadena Middle School." (close enough for this thread)
Anyone have any others?

Re: Pasadena in TV
Mon, January 21, 2008 - 9:34 PMthe show brother-and-sisters is supposedly set in pasadena. i dont watch it consistently, so i cant comment on whether it uses real references or fiction. most scenes are set indoors anyway.
the movie real-genius was shot around caltech campus (actually several movies have used the atheneum as a hotel/restaurant entrance.
just driving around i see shots (for commercials i assume) being setup in pas (and so.pas), but never stop to find out what the actual thing is.
also, this past weekend was the doodah parade and i was surprised noone mentioned it here. i was a lurker (ie id bookmarked the tribe, not even joined) so havent felt like commenting until this particular post. you are right - this tribe is relatively silent and there truly are many many things that happen here.
itd be nice to collect some of the annual-type ones into a thread somewhere. like the open house at jpl or whatever it is that is interesting to folks here - the first day of public school?
dunno - other than that - just a howdee... btw - id never heard of the cbs comedy big bang theory - was it any good? :)

Re: Pasadena in TV
Tue, January 22, 2008 - 12:17 PMBrothers and Sisters is set in Pasadena. So far I think all of their references have been correct and anything shot outdoors has been Pasadena. Unlike the show titled Pasadena where much of the shooting was done in Canada. Booo!
The house used as the exterior shot of the mansion for Fresh Prince is on South El Molino or thereabouts. So is the house from the Father of the Bride movies.
That's all I can think of at the moment but there are a lot more.

Re: Pasadena in TV
Tue, January 22, 2008 - 9:10 PMI also remember the HBO (or was it Showtime?) show Huff, which had his mother living in Pasadena, and a few scenes were at her house. I think Huff lived more on the west side (though in a classic Pasadena style Craftsman house).
A lot of stuff is shot here, but I'm more interested in things that are set here, even if they were filmed elsewhere.

Re: Pasadena in TV
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 11:19 PMNot what I was originally asking about, but Amy Poehler's Parks and Recreation show uses Pasadena city hall as the Pawnee Indiana city hall building, and it gets some play in almost every episode.
